A Witch Everyday

When I was younger, I dreamed of being a Witch.

Clad in a flowing gown, I would mix potions in a bubbling cauldron that has the heart of my quaint cottage in the woods. Herbs and flowers would be drying on racks hanging from the rafters and cats would be sleeping near the fire. The gardens surrounding my cottage would be bursting with vegetables and magical herbs waiting to be harvested. The locals would occasionally knock on my door for a magical salve or a cup of tea and a conversation.

The ideal life of a Witch.

Unsurprisingly, my life looks very different.

I live in an apartment. It’s not quaint and there are no cats sleeping by the fire, it’s crowded and full of collected treasures and my kids and their friends. I do have a cauldron, but it sits on the floor and my dutch oven gets the most use. My garden isn’t flourishing, in fact with the summers we get in SoCal most of my plants are dying in their pots. No one knocks on my door for magical salve but my door is always open for friends and family to stop by for food and conversations.

My life is not that romanticized ideal of a witchy life that I dreamed of, it’s full of the mundane. The minutiae of the everyday outweighing those “perfectly magical” moments.

But honestly, it’s so much better. I am a Witch all day, every day. Being a Witch is woven into the very fabric of my life, my thoughts and actions, and the attitude with which I approach all things, both magical and mundane. I strive to bring my identity as a Witch into everything I do.

In the coming weeks I’ll be sharing some practical suggestions for ways that you can begin infusing your magical practice into your everyday existence, and hopefully create the kind of life that makes you proud to be a Witch – all day, every day.
