What most people don’t realize is that there are magic applications to any recipe. And while a recipe in and of itself is delicious, you are infusing the recipe with the magical properties of the ingredients you are using as well as the energy and intentions you infuse into the food as you are cooking.
“Cooking demands attention, patience, and above all, a respect for the gifts of the earth. It is a form of worship, a way of giving thanks.” – Judith B. Jones
There’s nothing like a yummy fall inspired piece of pumpkin bread when the weather is crisp and the days become shorter, but we have a saying in our home “the best pumpkin pie, is a sweet potato pie.” So as the temperatures finally started to drop here in SoCal, and my craving for all things fall flavored could finally be indulged in, I decided to try something a little different.
Sweet Potato Bread.
This moist, delicious bread is a nice addition to your fall and holiday baking. I used canned sweet potatoes, because that was what I had on hand, but you can absolutely use freshly baked, or leftover sweet potatoes, however you may need to add a little extra liquid if your batter seems a little dry.
1 can sweet potatoes 15 oz (drain, saving 2 TBSP liquid)
1 1/4 Cup sugar
1/3 Cup water
1/3 Cup vegetable oil
2 large eggs
1 3/4 Cup flour
1 tsp baking soda
3/4 tsp salt
½ tsp pumpkin pie spice – cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, allspice,
cloves
¼ tsp baking powder
½ C pecans chopped
½ C dark chocolate chips – if desired
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Prep bread pan with baking spray and set aside.
Add the sweet potatoes and the reserved sweet potato liquid in a large bowl. Mash the sweet potatoes.
Add sugar, water, oil and eggs to the mashed sweet potatoes. Mix well.
Slowly add the flour, baking soda, salt, baking powder, and pumpkin pie spices. Stir to mix well.
Add most of the chopped pecans, stirring to mix. Save a little of the pecans to top the batter once it is in the loaf pan.
Pour the bread batter into the bread pan and add the rest of the pecans to the top.
Bake at 350 degrees for 50-55 minutes. (Insert a toothpick in the center to make sure the bread is done. The toothpick should come out clean,)
Remove from the oven. Allow to cool for 15 minutes while still in the pan.
Turn out the bread on a wire rack to cool.
The ingredients in this recipe are awesome for attracting prosperity and banishing negative energies. The bread is also great for warming you up energetically because all of the spices used are warming in nature.
Below you will find each ingredient along with a list of its magical uses.
I always stir the batter in a clockwise direction and like to trace a pentacle or other sigils into the batter while stirring. If you like to use spoke n spells in your magickal workings you can say this spell over the batter before pouring it into the pan s and baking the bread
With this batter oh so sweet
May abundance I now gather
I bake this bread with pure intent
Trusting my magic will now impart
Prosperity for all who enjoy
This gift I bake in delight
As I will it, so mote it be.
