As the wheel of the year turns toward Mabon, the Autumn Equinox, we find ourselves in a time of harvest and balance. For Green Witches, this sacred moment is a powerful opportunity to connect with the earth, celebrate nature’s bounty, and express our gratitude for the gifts that the land has provided.
In this Mabon ritual, we honor the changing seasons, acknowledging the vibrant colors of fall and the abundance that surrounds us. We will gather herbs, fruits, and other natural elements to create a sacred space, inviting the energy of the earth into our practice. Through intention, gratitude, and a touch of magic, we will reconnect with the cycles of nature and the deeper wisdom it holds.
Join us as we weave together our love for the green world and our gratitude for its many blessings, creating a meaningful ritual that celebrates the harmony between ourselves and the earth. Let us honor the beauty of balance as we prepare for the inward journey ahead, welcoming the lessons that autumn has to offer.
Preparation: Plan to perform the ritual on or near the autumn equinox (around September 21-23).
Gather Supplies
- A small altar or table
- Seasonal decorations (autumn leaves, pumpkins, acorns, etc.)
- A bowl of seasonal fruit (apples, pears, etc.)
- A candle (preferably orange, yellow, or brown)
- Natural elements (herbs, stones, or flowers)
- A journal and pen for reflection
Ritual Steps:
Nature Connection: Spend a few moments in nature if you can. Collect fallen leaves or acorns to bring back to your altar. Consider how these natural elements symbolize the transition and change of the season.
Create Your Sacred Space: Find a quiet place where you can set up your altar. Arrange your seasonal decorations, bowl of fruit, and natural elements. Place your candle in the center.
Grounding and Centering: Stand or sit comfortably. Take a few deep breaths, visualizing the energy of the earth flowing up through your feet. Feel your connection to nature and the cycles of life.
Light the Candle: As you light the candle, say something like: “I light this candle to honor the balance of light and dark, and to give thanks for the harvest.”
Embrace Gratitude: Take a moment to hold the bowl of fruit. Reflect on the abundance in your life. Offer thanks for the blessings you have received. You can say a few words aloud or write them down in your journal.
Intentions for the Coming Season: After your time in nature, return to your altar. Write down your intentions or goals for the upcoming months. What do you wish to release, and what do you want to nurture?
Closing the Ritual: Thank the earth, the elements, and any spirits or deities you wish to acknowledge. You may want to extinguish the candle while expressing gratitude once more.
Feasting: End your ritual with a small feast. Share the seasonal fruit among those present, or simply enjoy it yourself, savoring the flavors and the energy of the season.
